E10 petrol prices across Australia
E10 is typically the cheapest petrol grade at Australian service stations — usually 2–4 cents per litre below U91. For drivers whose vehicles are E10-compatible, using it instead of U91 can save $50–100 per year at no cost to engine health.
What is E10?
E10 is a blend of up to 10% ethanol and at least 90% unleaded petrol. The ethanol component is derived from plant material — most commonly sugarcane in Australia. E10 has a slightly lower energy density than pure unleaded, which means fuel consumption increases by around 1–3% compared to U91, partially offsetting the price discount.
The octane rating of E10 is equivalent to or slightly above U91 due to ethanol's own high octane properties. This means E10 is a genuine like-for-like substitute for U91 in compatible vehicles — not a degraded product.
Which cars can use E10?
The vast majority of petrol vehicles manufactured after 1986 are E10-compatible. This includes most Toyota, Mazda, Honda, Hyundai, Kia, Ford, Holden (now discontinued), and Mitsubishi models from that era onward. The Australian government maintains an official E10 compatibility list at the federal level.
Vehicles that should avoid E10 include some older carburettored engines, certain motorcycles and small engines, and vehicles with older rubber fuel lines that can degrade with ethanol exposure. If your vehicle specifies U95 or U98 minimum, it should not use E10 as a substitute — the minimum octane requirement takes precedence.

E10 availability across Australia
E10 is most widely available in Queensland and New South Wales, where biofuel mandates have historically pushed service station uptake. It is less consistently available in Western Australia, South Australia, and Tasmania.
Refuelr tracks E10 prices from official government feeds across NSW, VIC, QLD, SA, WA, and NT — updated every 30 minutes. You can filter by E10 on the station map to see only stations currently selling it in your area.
